From the Alton Democrat, September 13, 1913: Rock Valley news:

Mrs. Jennie Vander Weerdt, wife of Henry Vander Weerdt, died at her home southeast of Rock Valley September 6th of consumption. She was born at Ede Holland, March 28th, 1867, and was 46 years, five months and eight days old when she died. She was married May 5th, 1888, and was the mother of fourteen children, one of which preceded her to the spirit world. She came to America with her husband some twelve years ago, and has faithfully performed her duties as a wife, and shared with her husband the joys and adversities of life. She was a good wife, a loving and tender mother, and a good neighbor, and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who mingled and associated with her.

The funeral services occurred at the First Reformed church at Rock Valley of which she was a faithful and devout member. Rev. John De Jongh, pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. B. De Jongh of Carmel, after which her remains were laid to rest in Valley View cemetery. May she rest in sweet peace. The friends have the sympathy of the community.
