From the Rock Valley Bee, March 30, 1917:

DEATH OF MRS. AKKE ATTEMA

Mrs. Akke Attema passed away at the home of her son, R. Attema southeast of Rock Valley on Wednesday, March 21, at the age of seventy-nine years, one month and two days. Her death was due largely to the natural decline of old age, although she had been an invalid for the past five years.

The subject of this sketch was born in the Netherlands Feb. 19, 1838. She came to this country twenty-three years ago and during that time had lived almost continuously in Sioux County. Her husband died fourteen years ago, and since then she had made her home with her sons. She was a devout Christian woman and was highly respected by all who knew her. Besides a sister in Holland she leaves to mourn her death three sons and one daughter. They are J. and R. and P. Attema and Mrs. S. DeVries, all residing in this vicinity.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Christian Reformed church in this city and the remains were taken to Valley View cemetery for burial. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
