Madeline J. Bird, 74, of Scottsbluff, NE, formerly of Hawarden, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1996, at her home. Memorial services were at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 3 at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Karla Kirkeby officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Bird, the former Madeline Scott, was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Hawarden, the daughter of Herb and Ida (Crowther) Scott. She received her early education al Scott School and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1940. Mrs. Bird attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and after graduating, worked at a bank in Elk Point. She married Maxwell Thomas Bird on March 17, 1945, at her parents' farm. The couple moved to Lusk, WY., where she worked for the town of Lusk and Stockmans National Bank. She retired as vice-president of First Wyoming Bank Corporation in 1983, and moved to Scottsbluff in 1987 to be closer to her grandchildren.

Mrs. Bird was a member of the Eastern Star, PEO, Past-Matrons Club, Dorcus Guild Bible Study, and was a widowed Elks member. She enjoyed playing bridge and activities at the Scottsbluff Senior Center. Survivors include a son and his wife.
