From the Rock Valley Bee, March 9, 1917:

YOUNG LIFE TAKEN

Katherine Maeller[i.e., Moeller], daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Moeller, residing south of Rock Valley, died very suddenly Saturday evening [March 3] at nine o'clock in the hospital at Hawarden following an operation. Two and a half years ago she underwent an operation for appendicitis and at times since she had felt the effects of it. At the time she was taken sick last week Wednesday evening she was at the home of friends near Ireton. She was at once taken to the hospital at Hawarden and the doctors there advised an immediate operation which was performed. She rallied from the first effects of the operation, but other complications set in and she passed away Saturday evening.

The deceased was born July 7, 1897, being in her twentieth year. She was born in Sioux County and had lived here all her life. She was a splendid young woman and her untimely death is very much regretted.

Funeral services were held at the home of he parents Wednesday afternoon. The remains were taken to the German Lutheran cemetery for burial, the services being conducted by Rev. Gillmann. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends.

Death Follows Operation

Miss Catherine Moeller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Moeller of Plato township, died in the Hawarden hospital Saturday night, following an operation for obstruction of the bowels. She was taken sick while visiting at the Byron Pebbles home in Ireton on Tuesday evening of last week and Wednesday evening was brought to the hospital here by Dr. Null of Ireton. An immediate operation was decided upon but peritonitis set in and she failed rapidly until death came to end her suffering Saturday night. Her remains were taken to the home of her parents Sunday and the funeral was held today at the Plato township German Lutheran church. The many Hawarden friends of the bereaved relatives extend their deepest sympathy.

A brief news note in the LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, March 13 (Ireton news) says that she died of adhesions resultant from an operation for appendicitis which she underwent two years ago.
