Sophia "Sophie" De Graaf, 90, of Orange City died Thursday, December 25, 1997, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Reverend Donald De Glopper officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, prior to the service. There will be a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 3:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. De Graaf was born June 11, 1907, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Arie and Jennie (Vander Wilt) Van Wyk.

She married Marion De Graaf in January 1931. Their marriage ended in 1946. She was employed as an operator at the telephone company in Orange City for many years and later as a clerk at the Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. She entered the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City several years ago and transferred to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa in July 1997.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where she was active in circle, guild and Bible studies. She enjoyed the senior citizen activities and bowling.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Faye and Gerald Dunn of Marcus and Shirley and Donald Ward Sr. of Santa Rosa, California; six grandchildren, Jeralyn Volkert, James Dunn, Jana Welp, Denise, Donald Jr. and David Ward; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Van Wyk of Sheldon, Iowa and Gilbert Van Wyk of Bellflower, California; and two sisters, Irene Vellinga and Leola Te Grotenhuis, both of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Dunn; a sister, Greta Veld; two brothers, her twin Mitchell Van Wyk and Kenneth Van Wyk; and twin brother and sister in infancy.
