Loren Swanson, 83, of Ha warden died Tuesday, September 13, at his residence in Hawarden.
Services were held Friday, September 16, at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the
Rev. Karla Kirkeby officiating. Burial took place in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation began at noon Thursday, September 15, with at prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Swanson was born May 15, 1911 in Montrose, SD the son of Carl and Emma (Ericson) Swanson. He
graduated from the Montrose High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He served with the US Army during WWII in Radio School. He married Clarice Hegdahl July 17 1943 at Hudson, WI. The lived in Minneapolis before moving to Hawarden in 1946. He and his brother Arthur owned and operated the Firestone Store which later became the Swanson Brothers Hardware Hank. Loren retired and sold out to his brother in 1972. Clarice died June 3, 1985.

Mr. Swanson held various offices in the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, and was active in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine. He was an avid collector of antique tools and a member of the Midwest Tool Association, Missouri Valley Tool Collectors Association. He was a charter member of the American Lutheran Church and an associate member of the Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ where he wintered since 1986.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Mary and her husband Tony Deets of Onalaska, WI and Carol Swanson and her husband Jim Broucek of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Arthur Swanson and his wife Eunice of Hawarden; a sister, Marian Williams and her husband Don of Green Valley, AZ; a sister-in-law, nephews, nieces and many cousins.
