Helen Margaret Bruget Gregg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was born April 18, 1923. She suddenly and quickly entered Heaven while sharing stories with three of her great grandchildren January 3, 2016.

She was the fourth of five children of Rasmus and Helen Maggi Bruget of Irene, South Dakota; sister of Marie, Ralph, Norman and Donald Bruget. Helen attended rural elementary schools and high school in Irene. After her family’s move to Hawarden, Iowa Helen continued her education in a post-graduate program offered at the Hawarden high school to prepare her for teaching rural school, grades k - 8, which she did 1941-1946. During those years she met and then married Ralph Gregg Jr. on July 17, 1946.

Helen and Ralph enjoyed a long career on the family farm east of Hawarden where fattening livestock, raising crops and gardening were a way of life. Helen was very active in the community. As a soprano soloist and Associated Church choir member she frequently sang at church, community events, funerals and weddings. Her activities included her church, Bible studies, Extension Club, a youth 4-H club, M.I.C., PEO, Historical Society, Calliope Village, Library Book Club and the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store.

Helen’s love of life poured over into wholehearted involvement in the interests and lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She rarely missed an opportunity to support them in their education and activities. She was an avid supporter of West Sioux’s music program, rarely missing a concert even through last year.

Helen had many interests which in turn made her an interesting person. She loved both classical and Big Band music and learned to dance on her father’s toes. She was passionate about preserving history which led to energetic involvement with Calliope Village, the historical Hawarden pictorial display and family genealogy. Much of this culminated in the printing of her memories and collected genealogy records in 2013, assuring their preservation for future generations. Her more subtle passions were seen in her gorgeous flower beds, collection of bird nests, pine cones, weeds and grasses, rocks, eggs from their many travels, costume jewelry and family heirlooms.

Helen is survived by her children, Barbara Clark of Omaha, Nebraska and Charles and Susan Gregg of Hawarden. Her grandchildren are Katherine and Ty Henderson, Todd Clark, Rachel and David Murdoch, Cameron and Heidi Gregg, Curtis and Aubrey Gregg, and Jennie and Robert Sullivan. Her great grandchildren are Evan and Ellis Henderson, Calvin, Chloe and Charlotte Gregg, Lucille Gregg and Lavender Murdoch. She is also survived by her brother, Donald and Gunn Bruget and sisters-in-law, Lois Bruget and Ruth Gregg.
