Rock Valley, IA: Lucille Veltkamp, 93, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-7:30 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home. Lucille was born June 15, 1922 to John D. and Winnie (De Boer) Bolkema on a farm near Archer, Iowa. During her teenage years she moved from farm to farm during the Depression in the northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota areas. On January 7, 1948, Lucille was united in marriage to Henry J. Veltkamp in Rock Valley. They spent 36 years on a farm northwest of Rock Valley. They were blessed with 4 children, Winerva Jean, Gerald Henry, Eugene Robert, and Loretta Mae.

In 1985, Lucille moved into Rock Valley. She attended Ruth Circle for many years until declining health made it impossible to attend. Lucille took many trips to Lynden, Washington where she spent extended time with Gerald and Winerva.

Lucille was an accomplished seamstress and loved crocheting. She spent many hours making potholders and bookmarks for Winerva and Loretta’s classrooms as they taught in the Christian schools. Lucille loved spending time with all 11 of her grandchildren, Duane, Sheri and Kara, Jonathan and Breanna, Melissa, Michael, Marcus, Miles and Maria, and Lucas.

Lucille is survived by her 3 children, Winerva (Bob) Kramer, Gerald (Val) Veltkamp all of Lynden, Washington and Eugene (Jana) Veltkamp of Paullina, Iowa; son-in-law, Merle Wynia of Rock Valley; 3 brothers, Ken Bolkema of Leota, Minnesota, John (Betty) Bolkema of Hull, Iowa, and Norman (Bess) Bolkema of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Elaine Bolkema of Rock Valley and Nina Bolkema of Sheldon, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter, Loretta Wynia; sisters, Bernice Bolkema and Johanna (Arvid) Van Gelderen; brothers, Leonard in infancy, LeRoy, and Marvin Bolkema; and sister-in-law, Lucy Bolkema.
