Dorothy Fitch Fairbanks, 94, of Hawarden, died Wednesday, May 4, 1994, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were held Saturday, May 7, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hudson, with the Rev. Jeanne Johnston officiating. Burial was in Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Visitation was at the Porter Funeral Home in Hudson.

Mrs. Fairbanks was born March 24, 1900, at Hudson, daughter of C.H. and Effie (Dean) Fitch. She moved with her parents to Canton in 1902, then in 1914 to a farm west of Hudson that had been homesteaded by her grandparents. In September of 1916, she joined the First Congregational Church in Hudson. She attended Yankton College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. She taught schools in South Dakota, Montana and Michigan. She married the Rev. George Fairbanks, the minister to the First Congregation Church in Hudson, in 1938.

They served churches in South Dakota, Iowa and Kansas. After retirement in 1968, they lived in Minneapolis. The Rev. Fairbanks died in 1970. In 1988, she moved to Hawarden. She often served as organist, taught in Sunday school and participated in women's groups in the churches they worked with.

Survivors include sisters-in-law, Mary Fitch of Hudson and Virginia Fitch of Ukiah, CA; two nephews, Robert and wife Joyce of Yankton and Steve and wife Lynn of New Mexico; four nieces, Mary Glee Fitch of Yankton; Mrs. Ray (Nancy) Wicker of Hawarden; Mrs. John (Lois) Steiner of Dumfries, VA; and Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Mouat of Santa Rosa, CA; and many grandnieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Horace and Ralph.
