Fred Mellies, 91, of Redlands, CA, died on Saturday, October 16, 1993, at Redlands Community Hospital. Services were held on Thursday morning, October 21, 1993, at Cortner Chapel in Redlands, with graveside services at Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands.

A native of Ireton, Mr. Mellies was the son of Herman and Gretha (Johnson) Mellies. He married Lena H. Hunnick of Sioux Center in 1926, and the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 1991. Mrs. Mellies passed away in December, 1991. Mr. Mellies was a Redlands resident for 56 years. He worked for 50 years as a heavy equipment operator for Gradner and Yeager Construction Co. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Redlands and the International Operating Engineers Local 12.

He is survived by two sons, Bud and William, both of Redlands; a sister, Mary Sell of Fort Dodge; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests donations to First Lutheran Church, 1207 W. Cypress St., Redlands, CA 92373.
