Died: April 18, 1995William Bloemendaal, 79, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, April 18, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Funeral services were Friday, April 21, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Reverend Robert Drenton officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Bloemendaal was born October 15, 1919, in Doon, the son of Cornelia and Jennie (Baker) Bloemendaal. He married Hilda Mast of Volga, South Dakota, on February 20, 1940. He lived in Doon and in Volga until 1957 and then moved to Edgerton, Minnesota, where he lived until moving to Sioux Center in 1967.
He was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, catechism teacher, elder and in many other capacities. He was also involved in the Men’s Society, Kingdom Senior Citizens and the Christian School board. He enjoyed helping others and was known by his family and community as “Mr.Fix It.” His hobbies included saw sharpening, swimming and visiting.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Curt and Marilyn of Luverne, Minnesota and Al and Lynne of Sioux Center; three daughters and their husbands, Mary and John of Hutchinson, Kansas, Judy and Wayne Kieps of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Edie and Wayne Dekkers of Hawarden; four sisters, Jennie Klarenbeek of Washington, Fannie Riemersma of Washington, Margaret Roghair of Sheldon and Grace Den Top of Rock Valley; one brother, Nick of Doon; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, an infant sister, brothers Eilert and Peter and a son Calvin Dale.
