DUE TO THE WEATHER, SERVICES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED TO 2:00 PM TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2015 AT TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH.
June Lamoureux, 86, of Akron, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s in Sioux City.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Pastor Susan Juilfs will officiate. Inurnment of her ashes will be at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Visitation will continue following the service during a time of fellowship in the church hall. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. June Elaine Douglas was born June 11, 1929 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Beckley) Douglas. Early on, she moved with her family to Webster City, Iowa. She attended school until she had to stay home to help take care of her sister.
Later, she moved to South Carolina. After a short time, she moved back to the Akron area. She was united in marriage to Walter “Guy” Lamoureux on March 4, 1957. They farmed in Union County, South Dakota until they moved to Casper, Wyoming. While living in Casper, June attained her GED. She later attended Casper College where she received her degree in Business Administration. June then went to work for an implement dealer in Casper.
Later, they moved to Chappell, NE, where she starting working for a bank as a teller. She worked her way up to Vice President of the bank. While in Nebraska, she and Guy also owned and operated a motel. When their health began to fail, they moved closer to family in northwest Iowa, making their home in Sergeant Bluff. Later, they moved to Akron. Guy passed away October 22, 2001. June continued to make her home in Akron.
June was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She was a member of several professional women’s organizations. She was active for many years in the Akron Senior Center, having served on governing board for several years. She was also active with the Akron Care Auxiliary for many years. June volunteered her time at the Akron Children’s Center and helped senior citizens get to their doctor appointments for many years. She was the recipient of the Volunteer Award from the Governor of Iowa. Through the years, June enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and traveling.
Survivors include two grandchildren: Heather (Jon) Van Meter of Casper, WY, and Derek Hanaford of Arizona; 4 great grandchildren; two nieces: Marion (Jim) Utesch of Akron and Shirley (Bob) Mitchell of Mason City, IA; two nephews: Kenny Wearda of Webster City and Roger (Beverly) Jeffers of Sioux City; special great niece: Kathey (Mike) Suther of Casper, WY; a special friend: Christina Lewison of Akron; and many other great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy; her daughter: Patrice Hanaford; two sisters: Merna Jeffers and Thelma Wearda; two nieces: Sue Lamoureux and Macie Sundem; and a nephew: Douglas Jeffers.
