(March 25, 1928 - December 15, 2015)LEONA MORET, 87, of Washta, Iowa passed away Tuesday, evening, December 15th, at Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19th,a t 10:30 a.m. the Washta United Methodist Church. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Graveside services and burial will take place 2 p.m. at the Sheridan Township Cemetery at Boyden, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.comLeona was born March 25, 1928 at Sheldon, Iowa to Andrew and Sarah (Brink) Boone. She attended country school through the 8th grade and received her G.E.D. later in life. She was married to William “Bill” Moret on December 9, 1946 at her parents home in Sheldon, Iowa. They lived for 13 years in Boyden and Sheldon, Iowa. In 1959, the couple moved to Washta, Iowa. Leona entered the Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center in July of 2015. The couple was married for 58 years and 11 months when Bill passed away.
Leona gave piano lessons in her home for many years and was the Methodist Church pianist and organist for close to 50 years. She also assisted her husband with his livestock feed business and household products with Watkins and McNess Company. Music was an important part of her life, especially the piano and organ. Leona also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, playing cards in card clubs and family gatherings. Leona believed that the Love of God, family, Church and friends were a great joy and her hope for the future.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on November 20, 2005, two grandsons Brian and Allen Moret, son-in-law Bounsom Lovan, grandson-in-law Rod Chamberlain, sisters Tillie Boone, June and her husband Harold VanBeek, brothers Alexander “Sandy” and his wife Florence, Edward Boone and his wife Esther and a brother-in-law Al Oldenkamp.
She is survived by her 9 children: Linda (Roger) Groves of Sioux City, Iowa; Dennis (Cindy) Moret of Sioux City; Lloyd Moret of Washta, Iowa; Dave (Jean) Moret of Washta, Iowa; Sheryl Hofer of Sioux City, Iowa; Richard (Michelle) Moret of South Sioux City, Nebraska; Clyde (Carla) Moret of Windom, Minnesota; Laura (Russ) Schmidt of Cherokee, Iowa; Lisa (Bob) Mitchell of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 22 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; a sister Aletha Oldenkamp of Sheldon, Iowa.
