Elvina Geraldine Brunsting
Elvina Brunsting, the daughter of Gerrit and Maria (Hulshof) Kuyper, was born on September 17, 1926 in Carmel, IA. She grew up on a farm and attended country school. Elvina was united in marriage to Vernon Brunsting on May 25, 1945 in San Diego, CA. They lived in CA for 11 years, initially with Vern serving in the Navy in San Diego then in Bellflower milking cows to save money to eventually farm. They moved to MN to farm near Worthington and eventually near Luverne. Vern died in June of 1967. Elvina moved to Hull, IA to work at a nursing home and in 1973 she moved to Fulda, MN and worked at Campbell Soup for 17 years. She passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Our House Hospice in Slayton, MN at the age of 89. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca where she belonged to the Hope Circle. She also belonged to the Avoca Senior Citizens, Avoca American Legion Auxiliary and Fulda VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, crocheting, embroidering, and playing cards and dominoes with her friends.
Survivors include her 3 children, LaVonne Goering of Avoca, MN, Larry Brunsting of Sioux Falls, SD and Gary (Denice) Brunsting of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren, Paulette Goering, Amy (Fields) Fry, Christine (Kurt) Pickard, Lance Brunsting, Carrie (Ryan) Winfrey, Heidi Brunsting, Luke (Nicole) Brunsting; 8 great-grandchildren, Geraldine, Joy and Wyatt Fry, Conrad, Johanna and Alexis Pickard and Samantha and Brendan Brunsting; 2 sisters, Edna (Clayton) Meyer of Denison, IA and Violet (Melvin) Prins of Lakewood, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Geraldine, brother Gysbert Brunsting, sister Nellie Davisson and son-in-law Wayne Goering.
Funeral Services
Faith Lutheran Church Avoca, MN at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 11, 2015 with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist is Nancy Lee Pierson. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment at Hope Cemetery Hull, IA.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda
and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
