Death: January 2, 2015Edna Garrison, age 90 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Friday, January 2, 2015 at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 9th at First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids, Iowa, with Reverend Dan Haggar officiating.
Burial will be prior to the service with family and friends gathering at 9:00 AM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids and processing to Hillside Cemetery in Lester, Iowa.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
Edna June Garrison was born January 2, 1925 in Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Juffer) Sneller. She lived on a family farm near Middleburg, Iowa before moving to Lester, Iowa as a young girl. She attended Lester Community School.
She was united in marriage to Bert Garrison on August 31, 1942. Shortly after their marriage Bert was deployed to Europe and Edna spent half the year living in Missouri and the other half in Lester, Iowa. After Bert’s discharge they lived for short time in Urbana, Missouri before moving to Rock Rapids, Iowa in 1952. She worked as a waitress for few years and then Feller’s Lampshade Company for a year.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids and Dorcus Circle. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time camping and fishing with family and time spent at the cabin at Lake Sarah in Minnesota. On November 5, 2008 Edna’s husband of 66 years died. She remained living at their home until January 8, 2013, when she entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre. She remained there until her death this past Friday, January 2, 2014.
She is survived by four children, Roberta (husband, Art E.) Flier of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Patrick Dale (wife, Sharon) Garrison of Billings, Montana, Rodney A. (wife, Gayle) Garrison of Chancellor, South Dakota, Earl (wife, Shari) Garrison of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Willmer “Bill” Sneller of Seattle, Washington; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bert Garrison, her parents, William and Anna Sneller; step-father, Henry Flier; son-in-law, Marion Flier; sister, Alma Van Berkum; two sister-in-law, Cledith Garrison and Vivian Sneller; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Van Berkum and Clifford Garrison; one nephew, Mervin "Skipper" Garrison; and one niece, Patsy Van Berkum.
