Velma Peterson, age 73 of rural Hawarden, died Sunday, July 18, 1993, at the Hawarden Community
Hospital following a lingering illness. Services were held Wednesday, July 21, at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden, Rev. George Henriksen officiated. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peterson was born near Hudson, SD, February 4, 1920, the daughter of George and Ruth (Johnson) Marshall. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1937 and was employed in Canton, SD. She married Myron Peterson, February 14, 1940, in Hawarden. They farmed in the Akron, Alcester and Hawarden communities until their retirement in 1984 on their farm in Union County, SD, near Hawarden.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Roger and Marilyn of Little Falls, MN and Morris and Andrea of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Marlys and Shannon Keeney of Maple Grove, MN; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Helen James of Canton, SD; and a brother, Lyle Marshall of Hudson, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Howard and Harold.
