The Alton Democrat, Saturday, January 15, 1916

Mrs. John Akkerman, one of northwest Iowa's most notable pioneers, died Friday last at the home of her son, Case Langstraat, at Newkirk. Mrs. Akkerman was born in The Netherlands, coming to Pella in 1856. Here she was married in the same year. (First Husband was Hendrik Langstraat) Five sons and one daughter were born, the daughter Mrs. John Blom dying in the year 1898. The sons are: Johann, Peoria, Ill; Henry of Pella; Leonard of the Red River Valley, North Dakota; Peter of Boyden and Case of Newkirk. They were all present at the funeral which was held Monday from the Langstraat home in Newkirk. After the death of her first husband, she was married twice, being joined in wedlock to John Akkerman in the month of June, 1890. Her husband passed on in the year 1897 at the home in Pella, and since that time Mrs Akkerman has resided with her son Case in Newkirk. Burial took place at the Newkirk Cemetery.

(Second husband was Bastiaan K. Moleydyke). Had children only from Hendrik Langstraat.
