Wouter Van Steenbergen passed away at Sioux Center Thursday September first. He had suffered a long time with Bright's disease and death was a relief. Wouter Van Steenbergen was born in Ede, Province Gelderland, Holland, February twenty fifth 1856. He came to the United States when he was thirteen years old and came to Sioux county three years later—in 1872—and was therefore one of the pioneers. He followed black- smithing until about ten years ago when he retired from active labor to enjoy the accumulations of his efforts. Deceased was a well known known and respected Sioux Center citizen. He was ever active in the upbuilding of the community and was associated with its every move of progress.

He is survived by his wife and five children— Mrs. August Hilmer of Bridgewater South Dakota, Ed of Maurice, Gerrit of Hulland John and Will of Sioux Center and one brother Wm. Van Steenbergen of Lynden Washington.

The funeral services were held last Saturday from the home and from the Second Reformed church of which deceased was an active member. The services were conducted by Rev. B. De Jonge and interment was made in the 5ioux Center cemetery.

William Van Steenbergen and daughter Martha of Lynden Washington, James Vanden Berg of Corsica South Dakota, John Hackman and Arie Vanden Berg of Harrison South Dakota, M and Mrs. August Hilmer of Bridgewater South Dakota, Mr, and Mrs . Ben Hoeven of George and Jacob Van Steenbergen of Pender Nebraska attended the funeral. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved family.
