Hawarden Independent of August 24, 1989

Edward L. Aldrich, former Hawarden resident passed away at his home in Salem, OR, August 4. Edward, son of Eber and Carolyn Aldrich, was born in Boone, on April 4, 1923, and came to Hawarden at the age of 10. He attended Hawarden schools, later enlisting in the U. S. Army, serving with the Air Corp in Communications in the European theatre in World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he married Darlene Berglund, in October, 1945, and returned to Hawarden, where they were associated with his brother, Glenn and wife, Dorothy in the opening of Central Cafe. He moved to California in 1949 and pursued a career in the food business. In the early 1960's he again returned to Hawarden with his three children staying a few years before going back to California. He married Pauline Pfeifer in 1966, while living in Whittier, CA. he later moved to Salem, OR, in 1985.

Funeral services were held in St. Joseph Church in Salem, August 7. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, a son, Steve, of Idaho Falls, ID; two daughters, Mary Banks of Virginia, and Vicki Russo, or La Mirada, CA; three brothers, Glenn, of Oceanside, CA; Gene, of Lake Elsinore, CA; Robert, or Rochester, NY; and a sister, Edith Slife, of Hawarden; three step-children, Paula, Mark, and Toni, and nine grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren
