Hold Burial Rites| For Earl Vander Schaaf Here Feb. 9

Last rites for Earl Vander Schaaf, 27, were held in the First Reformed church at Slayton, Minn., on Friday, February 9. Burial was made in the Valley View cemetery in Rock Valley, with full military rites. Mr. Vander Schaaf was helping a neighbor, Roy Byers, load logs on a truck on Tuesday, February 6. A log fell on him, killing him instantly. He was born on January 3, 1924, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Vander Schaaf, at Hospers, Iowa. He attended school in Sioux county and was in the navy 27 months, 18 of which were spent overseas. He was married to Fannie Swier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Swier, on October 9, 1946. They moved to a farm near Avoca, Minn., in March of 1947. He is survived by his wife; three year old son, Allan; his parents of Jasper, Minn.; a sister, Phyllis of Ripon, Calif three brothers Duane of Rock Valley, Leon and Russell at home.
