Frank J. Margolin, 87, longtime Sioux City attorney, died Thursday, July 13, in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services were Sunday, July 16, in Shaare Zion Synagogue with James Sherman, spiritual leader, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with graveside services conducted by Landmark Lodge 103 AF&AM. Nelson- Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Magolin was born October 3, 1901, in Sioux City. He was educated in Hawarden schools and graduated from Hawarden High School. He attended the University of South Dakota and the University of Nebraska, where he received his Juris Doctorate. He also received an honorary Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. He played football while attending USD and was a charter member of the university's Athletic Hall of Fame. Also while attending USD, he directed his own dance orchestra which played on board the Cunard Ship Line and in France in 1926.

Mr. Margolin was admitted to the bar in New York, Nebraska and Iowa and practiced law in New York prior to coming to Sioux City in 1930. He married Fae A. Reider November 26, 1936, in Marshalltown. He practiced law in Sioux City until his retirement in 1986.

He then was of council to the law firm of Margolin, Gildemeistcr, Willa, Mugan and Krane, the law firm he founded. Mr. Margolin was a member of the bar associates of New York, Iowa and Nebraska, and Woodbury County and the American Bar Association. He also was a member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, acting as a board membcr and also served as president in 1969. He was past president of the Jewish Federation, Shaare Zion Synagogue, Sioux City and Iowa State United Jewish Appeal. He was past state president and district deputy of BPO Elks. He was also past president of the Little Yellow Dog Auction Club.

Mr. Margolin was a member of Shaare Zion Synagogue, Landmark Lodge 103 AF&AM, Abu Becker Shrine Temple, Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies, and was a charter member and Past Master of the former Woodbury Lodge 663 AF&FM. He was a 33rd Degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Margolin, of Boulder, CO; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Ordell) Safran, of England, and Sandra Van Epps, of Martinez, CA; a sister, Mrs. Abe (Ann) Berg, of Huron, SD; three grandsons, William, Peter and Tad Safram and two granddaughters, Erin and Ryan Margolin. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Memorials have been established in his name with Shaare Zion Synagogue, and the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Intensive Care Unit.
