From the Rock Valley Bee, December 25, 1914:

DEATH OF CLAUS EHLERS

Claus Ehlers, a brief mention of whose death was made in last week's Bee, died at his home near Inwood on Tuesday night, Dec. 15, of brights disease at the age of forty years and twelve days.

The deceased was born in Germany December 3rd, 1874, where he grew to manhood. In 1895 with his parents and two sisters he came to this country and located in Plato township, Sioux county where he lived about twelve years and then moved onto a farm near Inwood. He always lived with his parents and took care of them. His father died two years ago. His mother still survives him. Besides his aged mother he leaves to mourn two sisters, Miss Lena Ehlers who lives with her mother, and Mrs. Margarete Ahders residing near Alvord.

Funeral services were held at Inwood Saturday conducted by Rev. Gillmann, and interment was made in the Inwood cemetery. The deceased has many friends and was highly respected by all who knew him.

The family was found in the 1910 U.S. census in Richland Township [Inwood vicinity], Lyon County: Claus Ehlers Jr., head (age 35, single, farmer, born Germany, immigrated 1895, as did the rest of the family); Claus Ehlers (71, father), Christina S. Ehlers (59, mother); Lena C. Ehlers (30, sister); Margaret M. Ehlers (21, sister).
