From the Rock Valley Bee, November 13, 1914:

DEATH OF A FORMER ROCK VALLEY GIRL

Josephine Siemonsma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Siemonsma, residing on Court street, this city [LeMars], died at a hospital in Rochester, Minn., on Monday [Nov. 2]. Miss Siemonsma was taken sick on September 1, suffering from a goiter, and her condition becoming serious, she was taken to Rochester about a month ago for treatment, which was however without avail and she passed away at three o'clock on Monday afternoon. The remains were brought to LeMars, accompanied by her brother, Frank, and taken to the home on Court street. On Thursday morning the funeral was held in St. Mary's church in Remsen and the body of the dead girl laid beside that of her mother, who died eight years ago.

Josephine Siemonsma was born February 20, 1893, at Rock Valley, Iowa. Her parents moved to California in 1900 where they lived a year and then moved to Oregon where her mother died. The family moved back to Iowa in 1907 and lived in Remsen six months and then moved to LeMars, which has been their home since.

The deceased is survived by her father and stepmother, two sisters, Matilda and Anna, four brothers, Albert, Bernard, Peter and Frank, and three half sisters, Margaret, Leona, and Armella.

Miss Siemonsma was a quiet, reserved girl, a loving daughter and sister and made home bright and a haven of rest by her thoughtfulness and care for others. -- Le Mars Sentinel.
