Last Rites For Mrs. Van Acken Held At Alvord

Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Van Acken, of near Alvord, were held on Tuesday, January 2, at the Sacred Heart Catholic church at Alvord. Rev. Fr. L. Eisenbacker officiated. The burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery at Alvord. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Ferdinand, William and Robert Kerkvliet, Bernard, Donald and Raymond Roenien. Mrs. Van Acken died on Thursday, December 28, 1950, after a month's illness at her home south of Alvord at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 28 days. She was born in the Netherlands on September 30, 1867. She came to this country at the age of 10 years and settled at Rock Valley. She was united in marriage to Wm. Van Acken of Rock Valley in 1887. Five children were born to this union: George of Alvord, Mathilda (Mrs. Gerard Kerkvliet) of Sioux Falls, Alberta (Mrs. Leo Hoemen) of Larchwood, Rosa (Mrs. John H. Klein) of Alvord, and Albert, who preceded her in death as an infant. Besides her four children, Mrs. Van Acken leaves to mourn her passing, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
