William J. Mesmer, 64. died Friday, in a Sioux City Hospital after a short illness. Services were Monday, May 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Cherokee, with Rev. Jeffrey Kruger officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Mesmer was born June 21,1924 in Sioux City. He had lived in Cherokee for the past 20 years, and in Hawarden prior to that. He has been employed by the Cherokee Community Schools for twenty years; he. was a past elementary principle and was currently director of special education. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, in Germany and Japan.

He is survived by a daughter and son in- law, Jill and Paul Sleezer, of Sioux City; one granddaughter, Sara, of Sioux City; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Robert and Julie Mesmer, and Richard and Bobbi Mesmer, all of Sioux City, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
