From the Alton Democrat, July 11, 1914: Rock Valley news:

Tuesday evening July 7th, Mrs. Lydia Wynia, wife of the late Pier Wynia, departed this life at her home in Rock Valley, after an illness of two weeks duration, her husband having preceded her to the spirit world eight months ago and she expressed a desire to be with him.

Mrs. Wynia was born in the Netherlands, Aug. 15th, 1856, and at the time of her death was 57 years, 10 months and 12 days of age. When but a girl in her teens she came to America with her parents and settled at Patterson, N. J. In the year 1872 she came to Sioux county and located near Orange City. In January 1879, she was united in marriage to Pier Wynia. Seven children were born to them, four boys and three girls, all of whom survive her.

She proved herself to be a helpmate in the fullest sense of that term and shared with her husband the vicissitudes of life. She was a woman that was affectionately devoted to her family and home and the influence of her pure life was a benediction to the family and the community in which she lived. About five years ago she with her husband moved from the farm to Rock Valley where she has continuously resided till her death. She was a devout member of the Christian Reformed church and lived a consistent Christian life. She will be missed by the church and especially by her children but they have the assurance of meeting her again in the blissful regions of immortality.

Funeral services conducted at the Christian Reformed church Friday afternoon at two o'clock by the pastor, Rev. John Holwerda, in the presence of a large gathering of sympathizing neighbors and friends, after which she was laid to rest in Valley View cemetery. The bereaved children have the sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of sorrow.
