Glen P. Horton, 85, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Reverend Merrill Muller officiating. Burial was in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Glen was born September 24, 1924, in Lawton, Iowa, the son of Walter and Helen (Moyse) Horton. He grew up on the family farm near Lawton. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart Medal from being wounded while serving in France. After his discharge, he hauled gravel for many years.

On June 3, 1949, he married Norriene Rosenbaum in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was employed with the city of Akron, Iowa, for 12 years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Akron, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Elk Point, South Dakota, the Disabled American Veterans and AmVets. While living in Akron, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

He is survived by three children, Glenda Shook and her husband, Mike of Sergeant Bluff, Dorian Horton and Darwin Horton and his wife, Helen, all of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Staci (Aaron) Wiebelhaus, Brandi Horton, Walter Horton, Bridget McClure and Brannon McClure; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Horton and his wife, Betty of Le Mars, Iowa, and Cecil Horton and his wife, Corriene of Akron, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Olaff and her husband, Ole of Bettendorf, Iowa; and a former daughter-in-law, Sherry Beavers of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Art and Clarence.
