Mrs. Flora Curtis Succumbs After Suffering Stroke
Funeral services were held on Wednesday for Mrs. Flora Curtis Rev. M.L. Jones conducted a short service at the home of Mrs. Mabel McElroy at 2:00 p.m. Interment was made in the Rock Rapids cemetery after services at the Church of Christ at Rock Rapids, with Rev. Jones officiating. Flora Matilda Curtis was born in February 12, 1876, the daughter of Mr. arjct Mrs.SWalie rell (illegible) of Schuler, Neb. She was the youngest of four children, in April, 1889, the family moved to Lyon county, Iowa, and settled on a farm west of Rock Rapids, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Oscar Thorsen Jan. 1, 1901. Mr. Thorsen died at their farm northwest of Rock Rapids, in 1904. She then moved to Rock Rapids and made her home with her mother.
Several years later she was united in marriage to Arthur Curtis and moved to a farm in Minnesota, where they lived for a number of years. She later moved to Rock Rapids to care for her mother. Seven years ago, because of failing health, she moved to Rock Valley and made her home with her sister, Mrs.J. M. Collenbaugh. Mrs. Curtis was a devout Christian, being a member of the Church of Christ at Rock Rapids. She was a faithful member until her death. She suffered a stroke on Saturday morning and died Monday, August 28, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 16 days. She leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Schimdt, A. W. Glover, Orville Beam of Ogden, Iowa.
