From the Rock Valley Bee, February 13, 1914:

DEATH OF MRS. REDMOND

The following item is taken from the Rock Rapids Review concerning the death of Mrs. S. Redmond, for several years a resident of Rock Valley and well known here, will be of interest to people of this vicinity:

"The death of Mrs. S. Redmond at St. John's hospital in Sioux City on last Tuesday morning [Feb. 3?] at 6:30, while not a surprise to intimate friends, was nevertheless a great shock to them. She had been ill for more than two months and was taken to the hospital for the removal of a minor tumor, but blood poisoning set in after a few days and she never regained her strength sufficient to combat the disease.

She was born in Sincoe, Ontario, Canada, on September 5, 1859, and was married to Mr. Redmond May 24, 1878, at Woodstock, Ontario. She came with her husband to Rock Valley in 1892 and six years ago came to this city.

Mrs. Redmond was a Christian woman in all that the word implies. Because she lived the life and did the work of the Divine Master. Was there a neighbor ill and in need of kindly assistances she gave of her whole time and unstintingly. If a stranger was ill there was no need of offering assistance. She was an excellent nurse and her presence in the sick room was consoling. She ministered to their comfort with the spirit of an angel, so kindly and gently was the sufferer relieved. We are unable to write a more loving and consoling message to her sorrowing relatives. Her life was a most perfect one and she died with the consolation of faith, and of future reward.

Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. G. McKissick and Miss Grace Redmond. The funeral was held at the Congregational church this afternoon at 2:30 and service was conducted by Rev. Harry Evans, and the remains was[sic] interred in Riverside cemetery."
