Joan Ney, 63, of Granville, IA passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006 unexpectedly at her home near Granville. Joan was born Sept. 13, 1942 at LeMars, IA the daughter of William and Luella (Kobberman) Blatt.

Joan was raised in Remsen and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School from which she graduated in 1960. She then attended Stewards School of Cosmetology at Sioux City, IA from which she graduated in 1961. On August 26, 1961 she married Robert Ney at Remsen. They made their home near Primghar, IA where they were engaged in farming. On Oct. 23, 1964 Robert died as a result of a farm accident and shortly after Joan moved back to Remsen where she was employed at the Farmers Savings Bank. On June 29, 1968 she married Donald Ney at Remsen.

They made their home near Struble, IA, where they were engaged in farming. In 1970 they moved to near Brunsville, IA to farm. In 1975 they moved to near Granville where they were engaged in farming. In the late 1970's she operated her own beauty shop called Joan's Beauty Salon for several years and then was actively engaged in driving truck to the west coast with her husband until 1996 when she began her own home cleaning service. She was an accomplished hair stylist, seamstress and quilter. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her sense of humor, homemade bread, pies and cinnamon rolls.

Funeral Service was 10:30 A. M. Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Granville Funeral Home. Fisch Funeral Home at Remsen was entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Granville; four sons: Larry and his fiancee Laura Sullivan both of Jackson, NE, Bob and his wife Darcy of Sibley, IA, John and his wife Sarah of Oak Harbor, WA, Ken and his wife Dianne of Teeswater, Ontario, Canada; two daughters and their husbands, Laura and Bill Woudstra of McCook Lake, SD, Mary and Lynn Mulder of Nebraska City, NE; 8 Grandchildren, Bill and Kim Schmit, Christina LoVerde-Ney, Breijanna, Blake and Brennan Ney, Maddie and Lindsey Mulder; 2 Sisters, Marilyn Gilbert of Sioux City, IA, Sharon and her husband Larry Ruden of LeMars, IA; Father-in-law, Lawrence F. Ney of Sheldon, IA; Father and mother-in-law, Ray and Lorraine Ruden of LeMars, IA; 6 Brothers in- law, James and his wife Pauline- Ney of Albuquerque, NM, Mark and his wife Barb Ney of Bloomington, MN, Herb and his wife Linda Ruden of Estherville, IA, Gary and his wife Kathy of LeMars, IA, Bob Ruden and his special friend Kay DeBoer both of Marcus, IA, Phil and his wife Linda Ruden of Omaha, NE; 5 Sisters-in-law and their husbands, Judy and Irv Block of Ashton, IA, Jane and Jim Streff of West Plains, MO, Joyce and Mark Even of Rochester, MN, Helen and Dennis Renken of LeMars, IA, Bev and Bud Paulin of Alexandria, MN; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and friends.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and church Guild. Her faith in the Lord, Jesus, will serve as a testimony for generations. She was an active volunteer in both church and civic activities. Casket Bearers are Larry, Bob, John and Ken Ney, Lynn Mulder, Bill Woudstra. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terence J. Ney; Mother-in-law, Helen (Langel) Ney; Sister-in-law, Bonnie (Ruden) Ney. Visitation was any time after 4:00 p.m. on Monday. There was a rosary at 5:00 p.m. by St. Joseph Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville.
