Mrs. John Roman formerly a resident of Calliope, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Old People's Home at Madrid, IA. Her remains were brought to Alcester and laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
The deceased was born at HoptrupMark, Denmark, Dec 22, 1853 and passed away Sept. 12, 1929 at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 20 days. She came to America in 1881 and lived on her father's farm. In 1883 she was united in marriage with Hans Bendickson, who passed away in 1888. In the spring of 1853 she was united in marriage with John Roman. They resided in Calliope where Mr. Roman operated a grocery store and meat market, until he passed away in 1910. Following her husband's death she went to Alcester where she made her home with her half sister, Mrs. A. Hydeen, until 1925 when she was removed to the home for the aged in Madrid, Iowa.
She is survived by two brothers, Jens C. Bredell of Akron; and Peter Bredell of Solvang, CA; and half sister, Mrs. Anna Hydeen of Alcester.Source: Hawarden Independent 9/26/1929
