ROBERT FLESHMAN DIES AT CEDAR RAPIDS--WAS STRICKEN WITH TYPHOID FEVER TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO HIS UNTIMELY DEATH

On Monday evening at Cedar Rapids occurred the death of Robert Richard Fleshman of this city. The news of this sad and untimely death brought pangs of grief to every heart in the community, for Robert was one of Hawarden’s brightest and most estimable young men. The event was made more sad on account of its suddenness and from the fact that it was the fourth son whose death Mr. and Mrs. Fleshman have been called upon to mourn in recent years. Edward aged 19, Louis aged 17, and Arthur aged 9, all died in the year 1905, and now Robert at the age of 21, in the strength of his young manhood, has been ruthlessly torn from them by the cruel destroyer. Robert had been ill from typhoid fever in the hospital at Cedar Rapids for about two weeks. His father went a week before his death to be with him and was at his bedside when the end came.

He was born in Hawarden July 31, 1890, and all the years of his young life were spent in this city. He was a graduate of the Hawarden High School of the class of 1909. After finishing the prescribed course here he spent six months in the Cedar Rapids Business College and at the time of his death was employed as assistant secretary with J.L. Mattson of the Denning Wire and Fence Company. He was universally esteemed in his home town and gave promise of a bright future in a business way.

The body was brought to Hawarden Tuesday and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Congregational Church, Reverend Arthur Miles preaching the funeral sermon. The church was inadequate to hold the numerous friends who came to pay their last tribute of respect to one of Hawarden’s favorite young men and to express their sympathy with the bereaved parents. His death is mourned by many outside the family circle.
