Died: April 16, 2003 Spencer, Iowa

Neola Mae Loehr, 86 Alton, died Wed. April 16, at Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Services were Wed. April 23, at Alton Presbyterian Church, with Rev. C. Orville Kool officiating. Burial was at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Neola Loehr, daughter of Harbin and Hazel (Hildreth) Ratcliff, was born Nov. 6, 1916 near Northwood. She was raised in Rinard, where she graduated from high school. She married Cutris P. Loehr on Oct. 5, 1935 in Rockwell City. They made their home in Somers, where they operated the Cocklebur Inn and she was a cook at the school. They moved in 1958 to Alton, where she was a cook at their school 1961-1975. She then cared for her aged father and later for her ill husband. Mr. Loehr died in March 1983. She continued to live in Alton, eventually making her home with her sons in Florida, Texas, and CA. She became a resident of the Longhouse Residence in Spencer in the spring of 2001.

She was a member of Alton Presbyterian Church, where she attended worship services and was active in many functions. Her christian faith included praying for her sons and having an "I'm not afraid to die" attitude. She enjoyed traveling and gardening, both vegetables and flowers. She was a talented cook, especially when using leftovers.

Survivors include four sons, Curtis and Reta Loehr Jr. of Orange Park, FL., Russell and Belva Loehr of San Diego, Steven and Ruth Loehr of Spencer, IA and Richard and Nancy Loehr of Enid, OK; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Loehr; two grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer Ratcliff.
