Dr. A. L Lock Passed Away At His Home Here Friday
Big Crowd Attends Last Rites Held At M. E. Church Tues.

This community was saddened Friday when the news flashed through town that Dr. A. L. Lock had passed away. Dr. Lock had been ill for some time, and a few months ago had gone to the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., for an operation. Since that time he had not been able to take care of his extensive practice, and remained at home where he passed away at the age of 67 years, three months and 28 days.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. M. L. Jones, pastor. Interment was made at Valley View cemetery where the Masonic order conducted, last rites for deceased. Business houses were closed in Rock Valley from 1 to 3 p. m., out of respect, to the departed doctor.

Mrs. Margaret De Haas sang 'Going Home" and "Beyond the Sunset" at the services in the, church. Flowers were in charge of Mesdames Ethel Wesslink and Irene Riessen. Pallbearers were Paul Cqllenbaugh, C. S. Schemmer, Gerrit Harmelink, Wm. Hfjisen, Larry De Vries and Joe De Witt.

Born in Illinois, Arthur Lincoln, son of Thomas and Ida Mae Lock, was born June 5, 1886, at Malta, IL. He came with his parents to Mason City during the pioneer days and helped his folks on the farm until he finished high school. After high school he taught manual training at the Keokuk high school for 3 years.

Following this he entered the University of Iowa at Iowa City where he finished his medical training going to Boston Mass to take his internship.

Came here in 1914
Dr. Lock came to Rock Valley Oct 20, 1914 to start his medical practice for 33 years he practiced the healing here, helping thousands of people during his career as local doctor. On Oct 22, 1917 he was united in marriage to Sara Michaelsen of rock Valley. To this union were born two children. Loren Lincoln of St Charles, IL and Emlin Arthur of East St. Louis, IL.

During Dr. Lock's 38 years in Rock Valley he not only attended his patients, but took an active part in all community affairs. He was a member of the local Methodist church, the Gollen Sheaf lodge, the I. O. O. the Eastern Star and Reekah, Abu Beker of Sioux City, besides belonging to the American medical societies.

20 Years on School Board For 20 years he served on the Public school board, a number pf years as president. He was oppointed company surgeon for the Chicago and St. Paul Railroad in 1933. During the last world war he served his country medical examiner. Other people were his life. Dr. Lock loved life and was happiest when he could help others enjoy health. He brought over 2000 babies into this world, and children loved to come to his office for they came to know him as their friend. Dr. Lock leaves to mourn his passing his wife Sara, his tow sons and one grandson, Staley Thomas Lock of East St. Louis IL, beside a host of relatives and friends.

Michelson of Hudson, Wis., Mrs. Vera Ashelord and Mrs. Tyrrell of Sycamore, IA, Mrs. Nancy Ashelford and Mr. and Mrs. Faulkner and Luke of Byron, IL. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lock and John Lock of Mason City, W. F. Bowen and Bill of West Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Bert M. Lock of Keosauqua, Mrs. and Mrs. F. Cornelius of Sioux Falls, SD and Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Van Leeuwen of Rock Rapids.
