Mrs. Eliza Rose, one of the oldest residents of Hawarden died last Friday, Oct. 8th at the home of her son, Harry Rose, at the advanced age of 81 years. She had been ailing for a number of months and death came to her relief after a severe illness of about four weeks. A tumor of the stomach and other ailments incident to the infirmities of old age was the cause of immediate sickness and death. She just went to sleep to awake in another world to join the husband who preceded her fourteen years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church last Sat. and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. T. A. Ambler, pastor of that church. A good and noble woman has gone to her reward.

ELiza Goddard was born in Sheffield, Eng, March 29, 1828. She married Robt. Rose the 26th of Sept. 1847. They came to American in 1864 and lived in Cold Springs, N.Y., later moving to several different places, finally locating in Hawarden where she passed the remaining 23 years of her life. She endured many hardships in her life, one of the hardest in her life, which was crossing to this country in a sailing vessel. She was the mother of ten children, three of whom survive her, C. B. Rose of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Agnes Niehaus and Harry Rose of this city.
