Dr. R. A. Arlander, 80, of Minneapolis, who for eleven years served as pastor of the Big Springs Baptist Church, died Friday, April 6, at the Barnnabas hospital in Minneapolis. Dr. Arlander had not enjoyed good health for some times.

Funeral services were held at Elim Baptist church of which he was pastor 14 years, in Minneapolis Monday, April 9.

He was born in Sweden and came to America as a young man. The first years in America he followed the trade of a painter before he studied for the ministry. He married Miss Emily Anderson of Kalkaskia, Mich. He came to Big Springs about 1910 from Evanston, ILL, where he had previously served as minister. During the eleven years he was at Big Springs he instigated the first remodeling of the church and the building of the present parsonage.

For a number of years he served as Missionary secretary of the American Baptist conference, which includes the United States, Canada and Alaska.

He went to Minneapolis 35 years ago and served as minister of Elim church 14 years.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Dr. Clarence Arlander and Theodore Arlander of Minneapolis; two daughters, Miss Mae Arlander of Minneapolis and Mrs. Florence Peel of St. Cloud, Minn., and seven grandchildren.
