FUNERAL SERVICES HELD IN HAWARDEN MONDAY FOR VETERAN OF WORLD WAR I

Max West, 59, of Hawarden, died last Friday in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Mr. West was the second patient entered in the hospital which opened Tuesday of last week.

Mr. West had been ill more than five years due to a World War I injury. He had been hospitalized four times prior to entering the Sioux Falls hospital.

Max Edwin West, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. West, Hawarden pioneers, was born here, August 20, 1889. He grew up here, attending the public schools. He followed the trade of an electrician, being employed by the Fort Dodge, Des Moines and Southern Railroad.

He married Miss Betty Eggleston of Kelly, Iowa, April 22, 1915, and they lived at Boone where their first child was born. Mr. West was then called to serve his country and did.
