Mrs. Mildred Wolf, 78, wife of the editor of the Hawarden Chronicle which was published 44 years until the fall of 1946, died Sunday at the Burnight Nursing home here after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Associated Church with the recent pastor, Reverend John C. Thorns, officiating. Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Wolf's husband died at the age of 71 April 12, 1947. Mr. Wolf founded the Chronicle September 5, 1902, and sold it in May of 1946 to R.T. Gebbie. The Independent and Chronicle were consolidated in October of that year.

Mildred Dean Wolf, who was born at Primghar, Iowa, September 18, 1879, was married to William F. Wolf September 15, 1897. They came to Hawarden when he established the Chronicle.

Mr. Wolf previously had been editor of the Sanborn Pioneer and the Free Press at Osage City, Kansas. He was a member of a long-time newspaper family in this part of Iowa.

Mrs. Wolf resided at her home at 1415 Central Avenue until last December. Since then she had been at the Burnight Nursing home.

Mrs. Wolf was choir director of her church for many years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Mutual Improvement Club of Hawarden.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold Shoemaker; three grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Blanch Benedict of Oakland, California.
