Alton Democrat of May 28, 1910

William Miner formerly of Hudson SD died very suddenly at Denver CO on May 25th. Mr. Miner ran a splinter into his hand while splitting wood and blood poison set in from which death resulted. He was an old man having homesteaded near Hudson SD over forty years ago. Mr. Miner was a civil war veteran and prominent in G. A. R. circles. The body was brought to Hudson fro interment and the funeral was conducted from the congregational church on Friday. Mr. Miner is survived by his wife and four sons and four daughters.

In the Alton Democrat of June 4, 1910 more information was given :
William L. Miner of Hudson SD died at St. Anthony’s hospital in Denver CO on My 23rd. He was seventy three years old and lost out in the battle with pneumonia . He was born in Leyden Massachusetts and was one of the Hudson pioneer business men a good man and much respected by all.

He was a prominent G. A. R. man and a member of the Fort Donaldson Post. He was married to Desure E. Gates on May 16, 1865 at Leyden Mass. And ten children were born to bless the union. Funeral services were conduced by Rev. Milo R. Weidman of Congregational church. He was buried in Eden cemetery on May 27th.

Deceased is survived by his wife and the following childen: Mrs. S. W. Thomas of Glenham SD, Burton of Bently ND, Herbert of Bushnell NE, Darwin of Hawarden, Ray of Cooper SD., Mrs. Ray Smith of Hudson SD., Milo of Bison SD, Mrs. Ross Smetts of Hudson.
