Military Services Held Monday for Henry Vanderven.

Henry Vanderven died Friday, June 9, 1961, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, after surgery. He apparently was making satisfactory recovery when complications developed. He had been in poor health for sometime.

Military services were held on Monday at the First Methodist Church, with Reverend C. E. Custer officiating. Burial in Grace Hill Cemetery. Pall bearers were Walter Larsen, Harry Dawson, Harry Hodoway, Bert De Jager, Clarence Larson and Dave Johnson.

Mr. Vanderven was born February 25, 1869, in Holland. He came to America as a baby, lived first in Grand Rapids, MI, then Hawarden, Iowa as a young boy and for a number of years was engaged in farming.

He married Miss Sadie Stoner of Hawarden, July 24, 1918. One daughter was born to this union, Pearl, who died at the age of 3 1/2 years.

He was a Veteran of WWI, member of Two Oaks, Post #254, the American Legion, Post 1628 of Sioux County, Barracks of WWI Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Methodist Church.

Survived by the widow; three sisters, Mrs. Andrew Elgersina, Mrs. Dick Huenink, Mrs Garret Van Noort; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Sioux Center News, June 15, 1961 (Thursday)

Funeral services were held for Henry Vander Ven, 72, of Hawarden, Monday, June 12, in the Methodist church of Hawarden with Rev. Chester Custer officiating. Burial was held in the Grace Hill cemetery in Hawarden under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Sadie, and three sisters, Mrs. Andrew Elgersma of Ireton; Mrs. Hattie Heunink of Firth, Nebr., and Mrs. Gerrit Van Noort of Stickney, S.D.

One daughter, Pearl, who died in infancy, and one sister, Mrs. Jim Herweyer of Sioux Center, preceded him in death.
