Funeral services for Fred F. 69, mayor of Alcester since 1961, who died unexpectedly Tuesday of last week when visiting in San Diego, California, were held at 2 o’clock Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Alcester. Reverend Donald Asman officiated with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mayor Hanson went to California several weeks ago to visit relatives. He was found dead after he had been resting for a while at a home in San Diego.

Mr. Hanson was born September 18, 1896, in northwest Iowa. He married Ethel Campbell on May 5, 1915 at Centerville, South Dakota. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last May.

Before he became mayor he was on the city council four years. He was a cattle feeder and active in cattlemen’s associations, having resided on a farm prior to moving into Alcester.

Mr. Hanson was a charter member of the Alcester Lions Club and a member of the United Church of Christ.

Survivors besides the widow are: four sons, Fred of Alcester, Robert of San Diego, William of Minneapolis and Donald of Manteca, California; five daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Hoff of Alcester, Mrs. Thelma Topham of Chula Vista, California, Mrs. Betty Johnson of Morton Grove, Illinois, Mrs. Fern Gregory of San Jose, California and Mrs. Lois Hammitt of North Highlands, California, and 16 grandchildren.
