Death: May 30, 1995Johanna W. De Vos, 86, Hull, died Tuesday, May 30, at the Valley Manor in Rock Valley. Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, at the First Reformed Church in Hull with the Reverend David C. Ter Beest and the Reverend Harold Lenters officiating. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery in Hull.
De Vos was born February 20, 1909, near Sioux Center, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Boeyink) Kleene. She was raised in the Doon and Hull area. On December 30,1930, she married Clarence De Vos at Hull. They farmed southwest of Sioux Center until 1943 when they moved to a farm north of Hull. In 1963, they moved into Hull where she was a housekeeper at the Pleasant Acres Care Center for several years. Mr. De Vos died August 29, 1983, at Rock Valley.
She became a resident of Valley Manor in February 1995. De Vos was a member of the First Reformed Church and its Martha Circle. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed making all types of handwork and was known for her baking ability.
Survivors include her son Cornie and his wife, Marie, of Jenison, Michigan; four daughters, Elizabeth Brunsting of Hull; Nelvina and her husband, Joe Bomgaars Jr., of Hull; Wilmina and her husband, Andrew Oostra, of Rock Valley and Clarice and her husband, John S. Kooima, of Hull; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ida Vierhout of Melvin and Clara Rosenboom of Rock Rapids.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ted Brunsting; a great-granddaughter, Danielle Renee Anliker; three brothers, John, Henry, and Wilbert Kleene; and a sister, Anna Johnson.
