From the Hawarden Independent, June 15, 1911:

A Sudden Summons
Henry Murray Dies Early Monday Morning
Had Been Resident Here for Over Twenty Years--Served as Marshal for a Time

This community was greatly shocked Monday morning to learn of the sudden death of Henry Murray. He had been ill for several weeks, though few people knew of his serious condition. He died from a complication of ailments following an attack of rheumatism.

The deceased was born at Blue Mound, Wis., Dec. 24, 1868, and was the eldest of a family of nine boys and one girl. He was the third in this large family chain to pass away, two brothers having died in infancy. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1888, locating near Chatsworth. Two years later they moved to Eagle township in this county where they farmed for several years, moving to Hawarden in 1896. He has since made his home here. He was marshal of the city for several years and discharged the duties of this office with fidelity and without fear or favor. As a police officer he became widely known.

The funeral services were held at the Catholic church Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Bradley preaching the funeral sermon. The Catholic Order of Eagles, of which lodges the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body. A large concourse of friends were also present to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed and comfort the sorrowing ones. The aged mother is bowed with grief and for a time it was feared that in her weakened state she also would be taken by the hand of death. Her condition was somewhat better this morning.
