Sylvia Kempema, 71, of Rock Valley died Friday at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial Service ill be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Faith Reformed Church with the Reverend Mike Molenaar officiating. Burial will be prior to Memorial Service in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation will begin at 4 P.M. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 P.M., at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Kempema was born January 15, 1928, near Alvord, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius “Case” and Marie (Dahm) Harthoorn. She attended Rock Valley Christian Grade School and graduated from Western Christian High School of Hull.

She married Raymond Kempema on February 21, 1947, at Doon, Iowa. They lived near Rock Valley where she drove a school bus for River Valley School. She was also involved with the Rock Valley Rotary Foster Grandparent Program for many years. Her husband died on November 16, 1989.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Charles and Joan of Middleville, Michigan, and Marvin and Donna of Doon; three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Kathy) Van Voorst of Inwood, Iowa, Susan Kempema of Rockford, Michigan, and Mrs. Glenn (Carolyn) Seeley of Plymouth, Minnesota; a brother and his wife, Cornie and Grace Harthroon of Rock Valley; two sisters, Nell Harthorn of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Trudy and her husband Leonard Bouma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchil
