Hawarden Independent, Abt. July 7 or 9, 1936

Friends in this community were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Lynn Morgan, former well known resident, which occurred last Thursday morning at New Orleans, LA, while undergoing an operation on his throat. The operation was considered a minor one but he failed to recover from the effects of the anesthetic.

The body was brought to Hawarden for burial. Lynn Dale Morgan was born June 26, 1896, at Ireton and died in New Orleans, LA, July 2, 1936, at the age of 40 years and 6 days. He spent most of his early life in and near Hawarden and attended the Hawarden high school from which he was graduated with the class of 1914. After that he attended business college at Des Moines and Mankato, MN.

He enlisted in the army in August, 1918, and was stationed at Fort Des Moines for a short time when he was transferred to an Officers Training Camp at Camp Grant, near Rockford, IL, where he remained until his discharge following the Armistice.

On June 14, 1923, he was united in marriage with Gussie Caperton at Rapid City, SD, and since that time has resided in Sioux City, Iowa, and New Orleans, LA. For the past eight years he has been employed by the Ford Motor Company. He had just received notification of a fine promotion by the company to take effect next week and it was in anticipation of assuming his new position that he decided to submit to the minor throat operation which proved fatal.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Virginia, of New Orleans; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Alf. Morgan of Hawarden, two brothers, Lloyd of Hawarden and Warren of Madison, Wis.; and a sister, Miss Ethel Morgan of Hawarden, who returned only last week from a visit at her brothers' home in New Orleans.

NOTE: this is a shorted obit, leaving out the funeral, music, songs and list of those attending.
