Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church in Hospers Tuesday for John Hulst Sr. 79 long-time resident of Hospers community, who died Friday at his home after a three months illness.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Henry Rikkers and burial was made in the West Cemetery at Hospers with Vander Ploeg's Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
A brief service for family was held at the home preceding the service at the church.
Mr. Hulst was born in The Netherlands in 1880. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of 4 settling in the Hospers Community.
He married Allie Romberg in 1910. He was a charter member of the Hospers Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include seven sons, Ralph of Hospers, Henry of Artesia CA, Warden of Columbia, S.C., Herman of San Diego, CA., John Jr. of Bellflower, CA., Nick of Paullina and Ellion, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Kline of Bellflower, CA. Mrs. Don Shaver of Portland, Ore. Mrs. Joe Reuter of Hospers, and Mrs. Bert Kooiman of Norwalk, CA; 32 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
