MRS. GERRIT KLAY
Death came to Mr Gerrit Klay January 6 at seven in the morning in her apartement in the Pioneer Home. She had enjoyed a visit with her children Sunday evening and seemed in her usual health. However, when she failed to appear for breakfast, Miss Gertrude Mouw of the Home went to look for her and found her dead in bed.

Mrs. Klay, nee Effie Wassenaar, was born May 24, 1869 in Pella Iowa and came to Sioux County in 1876. She was married to Gerrit Klay September 5, 1888 at Orange City. They lived at Rock Valley until 1897 when they moved to Orange City.

Surviving are five children, Kathryn (Mrs. Paul Smith) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Teunis of Orange City, Dorothy (Mrs. Harold De Jong) of Paullina, John of South Gate, California, Geraldine (Mrs. Howard Fickey) of Cedar Rapids. There are 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Teunis, on May 24, 1892, and Mr. Klay who passed away in 1939. She moved to the Pioneer Home in 1943.

Funeral services were held January 8, at the Pioneer Home and at the American Reformed Church. John Klay, who flew from his home, arrived here Tuesday.
