Gertrude Kooistra, 87, of Sanborn died March 21 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center at Sheldon.

Funeral services were at 1:30 P.M. March 24, at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn. Reverend Stuart Pastine officiated. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn under the directions of the Sanborn Funeral Home Service.

Pallbearers are Lee Neerhof, Jim Den Hartog, Time Alderink, Lee Kooistra, Bruce Roelfs, Dale Homkes, Jeff Krahling and Larry Kooistra.

Gertrude DeBoer, daughter of Jake and Gertie (DeValk) DeBoer, was born at Hull on August 8, 1899. She lived her youth and attended school in the Hull community. On November 12, 1919 she married Peter Kooistra. They farmed in the Sanborn vicinity until moving to Sanborn in 1941. She was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church and the Willing Workers. She entered the Prairie View Home at Sanborn on April 2, 1985.

She is survived by her children: Jud and Anne Homkes, Harold and Gertrude Bloomer, Arnold and Jackie Bruinsma, and Sidney and Joan Kooistra, all of western Michigan; Robert and Beradine Den Hartog of Sheldon; Clarence and Effie, Jake, and Jim and Alice Kooistra, all of Los Angeles, California area; 37 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jessie Eckhardt of Mesa, Arizona, two sisters-in-law, Effie DeBoer of Boyden and Dena Vander Plaats of Ogilvie, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Peter DeBoer
