Hawarden Independent, January 12, 1922

Agnes Morgan was born in Tioga County, PA, April 6, 1852, being the fifth in a family of nine children, seven sons and two daughters. When she was two years of age the family moved to Linn County, Iowa, then in 1861 they settled in Tama County, where she grew to womanhood. In 1885, the family came to Ireton, where she has made her home until her decease. In 1898 and 1906 respectively, her father and mother died and since that time, Agnes, as she was familiarly known to everyone in this neighborhood, has lived alone. The afternoon of January 1st she took sick and from the first it was recognized that her sickness was serious and that she was suffering much pain. Neighbors and friends rendered all the aid they could to relieve the suffering, but she rapidly became weaker until in the early morning of Thursday, January 5th, she passed away, being survived by her four brothers as follows: John N. of Hot Springs, SD; Andrew C. of St. James, MN; Simeon E. of Burlington, Colo, and Franklin E. of Hawarden.

The funeral services were held for her in the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she had been a member for twenty-three years, conducted by Rev. Kettle, and her remains were laid to rest in the Ireton cemetery on Saturday afternoon, January 7th.

The following from out of town were in attendance at the funeral: Mr. & Mrs. Franklin E. Morgan; Mr. & Mrs. Alf. Morgan; Mr. & Mrs. Dick Morgan, and Mr. & Mrs. Emmett Heumphreus; Mrs. Ray Dale, and Mrs. Vernon Ahmen, all of Hawarden; Dr. & Mrs. H. P. White and Mrs. W. H. Ward of Sioux City.
