Kruizenga, Dirk Sr., 1856-1944

Dirk Kruizenga Sr. passed away at his home on Monday morning at the age of 87 years. He became ill about five weeks ago with a siege of the flu and was down in bed since that time.

He is survived by six children namely Allie (Mrs. Jake Borgman), John Kruizenga, Anna (Mrs. John H. Rozeboom),Dena at home, Dick Kruizenga of Clinton, Wis. and Peter Kruizenga of Orange City. Also one daughter by adoption Grace Kruizenga who makes her home with them, and 36 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away in July, 1924, one son Henry Kruizenga who passed away last June and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Rozeboom who died January, 1943.

Funeral services were held on Wed. afternoon March 1, 1944 at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church with Rev. L. A. Brunsting officiating. Burial was made at the local cemetery in Sioux Center, and acting as pallbearers were six grandsons; Peter Kruizenga, Benjamin Kruizenga, Arthur Kruizenga, Elmer Borgman, Gerrit Rozeboom, and Dick Rozeboom.

Mr. Kruizenga was born in the Netherlands on March 3, 1856 and came to Sioux Center community 65 years ago and spent the remainder of his life in this vicinity. He was the oldest member of the First Reformed Church. His son, Dick of Clinton, Wis. arrived here on Tuesday evening to attend the funeral service.
